Ayurveda classifies diseases according to causes into three categories.

(1) Drashtapcharaj Disease –
The diseases which have definable causes and effect logic, are called Drashtapacharaj diseases.
(2) Adrashtapharaj Diseases –
Diseases that have causes which are undefinable or unfathomable.
(3) Mishra (mix) –
Diseases or conditions where the causes are of mix type. Some causes can be defined, others can not be.

Medicines prescribed by vaidya, diet control etc. have a role to play in curing all diseases, however, the disease process in the body has deeper roots therefore we at DARF use along with drugs, spiritual healing methods for all diseases, and conditions. It is found that some diseases can be completely cured without medicines, only through spiritual healing. . Spiritual healing in Ayurveda is called Naishthiki chikitsa.

The following rituals and religious practices fall under the naishthiki chikitsa category.

(1) Yagna
(2) Mantra Chanting
(3) Bhakti Yoga
(4) Meditation
(5) Yoga asanas, mudras and pranayamas.

This processes work upon two main principles of human life.

(1) Manah (mind)
(2) Purva karma (predeed)

This process works upon the mind to rid the mind of negative tendencies and to bring a state of mind where satvic tendencies are predominant, when the mind becomes quiet and healthy, this also affects the person’s physical health, on a positive note.

According to vedic science every being is carrying with it imprints of his past deeds (karma) in his subtle (sub conscious) mind. This karmas (deeds) then sometimes produces adverse reactions in the physical body we know as diseases.

Since these causes are indefinable they can only be neutralized by purifying life energy, by religious practices and good deeds. Down the ages these practices if followed properly have been known to not only cure physical problems but also helps to better the mental attitude to life.
