Panchmahabhatuas
(The Five Elements)
Ayurveda
depicts that everything in this universe is made up
of five great cosmic elements or building blocks. These
are earth, water, fire, air, and space.
Earth:-
Earth element if the solid manifestation of the cosmic
consciousness. In all of creation and in living beings,
all solid structures, hard and firm tissues, bones,
etc. are derived from earth energy molecular element.
All five elements are proportionately present even in
single cell being or viruses etc.
In
a living cell the basic membrane component is earth,
inner vacuum is space, water is present in liquid form,
D.N.A. and all other chemicals are fire elements, and
movement of the cell and movement within it are due
to air element.
Water:-
Is represented as ever changing liquid state of consciousness.
As we are aware a large part of all living bodies is
made up of water. Movement of water inside living cells
and within complex body mechanisms is responsible for
the survival and maintenance of human and all living
beings. Our blood and other fluids move between our
cells and through our vessels, bringing energy, and
carrying away wastes, regulating temperature, bringing
disease fighters, and carrying messages from one system
to another.
Fire:-
Fire is the power of consciousness that transforms solids
into liquids, to gas, and back again. It possesses the
power to transform the state of any substance in the
universe. Fire element transforms food into energy.
It creates the impulses of nervous reactions, our feelings
and also our thought process.
In human body the solar plexus or the stomach is the
seat of fire, and this fire principle regulates body
temperature. Fire is also responsible for digestion,
absorption and assimilation. It is present in the eyes,
therefore we perceive light, and the luster in the eyes
is a result of the fire principle. There is fire in
the brain as the gray matter, which governs understanding.
Air:-
t is the gaseous form of consciousness which is mobile
and dynamic. Oxygen in living beings is responsible
for all energy reactions. It is a key element for fire
to take place. Breathing, movement of intestines are
governed by air. Yhe movement of thought, desire and
will power are also governed by the air principle.
Space:-
Expanding consciousness is space and it is all inclusive.
It is the cocoon that is simultaneously the source of
all matter and the space in which it exists.
